Yamaha PSR-E383 or Casio CT-S300? The kids’ keyboard duel

The two best-selling entry keyboards, around €20–40 apart – and in fact two different target groups. Both have the mandatory programme on board: touch response and USB MIDI. After that, they part ways.

Yamaha PSR-E383: the learning keyboard

Noticeably better sounds (Yamaha’s big sound library), auto-accompaniment, and the “Keys to Success” learning function with built-in practice pieces. The display helps with navigation. In short: the keyboard for children who really take lessons or practise seriously – it grows along for two or three years.

Casio CT-S300: the light-and-everywhere keyboard

Considerably lighter (3.3 kg!), with a carry handle and battery power – a child carries it to their room, to grandma’s, to school by themselves. The sounds are decent, but one step below Yamaha. In short: the keyboard for discovering and taking along, at the smallest price of the class worth taking seriously.

Our clear recommendation: Child takes lessons or practises in a structured way → PSR-E383, the surcharge sits in sound and learning aids. First discovery, small budget, lots of moving about → CT-S300. Hands off, however, no-name keyboards without touch response – no matter how colourful the box.
